The White Oak Tree Improvement Program is using traditional, applied breeding to develop a sustainable supply of high-quality white oak seedlings to meet current and future demands for reforestation, and to provide material for academic and industrial research and development. Superior white oak seedlings will improve ecological success in the forest and increase economic benefits through production of quality wood products. The knowledge gained and material available from the tree improvement program will increase our ability to conserve and restore white oaks in the forest to achieve a variety of ecological, conservation and economic goals at regional and national levels. The Tree Improvement Program is a collaborative effort involving many partners and organizations.
